Our goat, Rolo, was one of the first born on our farm. Her mom is Jellybean - the herd queen. Rolo has always been a sweet girl and a great mother. A weird thing about her and her sister, GooGoo, is that Rolo has only given birth to boys and GooGoo has only given birth to single girls. (Side note: GooGoo's girls are carrying on that trait so far.) In a dairy herd this means that Rolo has never gotten to keep one of her kids as a buddy. Almost all buck kids are sold as pets or herd sires to other farms. Her sisters both have many kids they've kept. This has been a bit of a heart breaker for all of us because Rolo is a great mom and goes through a depression each year when her boys go away to new homes. A couple of years ago she had a single boy - Lalo - that we had decided to wether and let her keep. Sadly, Lalo died after a few months.
Fast forward to 2016. Near the beginning of the year I had a dream that Rolo finally had a girl! Somehow I knew from this dream that she had to be bred in 2016 for this to happen. This suited me just fine since we had a new buck, LoneStar, that I wanted to breed her to anyway. I was so excited by this dream that I told Scott and the kids, and well, anyone who would listen about it. We planned for a fall breeding.
As fall approached I had another dream about Rolo's girl. This time I knew that her name was to be Cherish. Okay, as long as Rolo gets her girl, no problem! Again, yammered on about this to everyone. At this point, I know they think I'm getting loony.
Rolo and LoneStar make a love connection! Baby is on the way. Now I am getting really excited because things are going just like the dreams said. We also start planning to buy our new farm and make that big move. I'm a little nervous about moving the girls so close to their due dates but it is what it is. We get moved, everyone is happy in the new place. Guess what? I have another dream! It was about 2 weeks before Rolo's due date and this time I got to see Cherish's face. In the dream Jamie was carrying her out of the barn and telling me it was a girl. She was white with tan and gray marks. Super excited!
Rolo is a very accommodating goat. She went into labor one day after her due date. Easy peasy, no muss no fuss. This video shows the quick delivery of Cherish #1. You can hear the excitement in our voices - although I already knew of course. Then here comes another little bundle of joy. It's white with a little tan and IT"S A GIRL TOO! Two girls? That was not in the dream. A double blessing!
